Do you ship fruit?
We do not ship, but we do offer boxes that are designed with foam inserts specifically for shipping apples. Boxes are $6 each and will hold 16 apples (not included). We always recommend shipping Priority Mail (USPS) or a 2-3 day service from other carriers. We can also recommend other Connecticut orchards that do ship fruit out of state.
Do you grow all of the fruits and vegetables at the farm?
Seasonally, we do grow most of our produce, but our inventory of certain items is supplemented by a distributor in Hartford and several local farms also known for their high quality and sound environmental practices.
What does Holmberg Orchards grow, other than apples?
Besides apples, we also produce: pears, peaches, nectarines, plums, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, tomatoes (hothouse, field and grape tomatoes), wine grapes, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, summer squash, winter squash, pumpkins, gourds, lettuce, and many patio and bedding plants. And to quote Diane, “We also grow fond family memories.”
How long has the store been in business?
One of the original Holmberg brothers originally ran this store as a grocery and fruit stand in the 1950’s. Third generation (Richard Holmberg) began running the store as a seasonal apple stand and country store in 1974. It has evolved over time into what you see now, and is currently run by fourth generation, (Amy Holmberg).
